Vincent at the ready!
Vincent at the ready!

When we began the planning for this trip, it was with the understanding that all systems were GO at home for all the people in our family. It happened at the last minute that we can be more useful at home than away and as a result, we have readily modified our trip for this year.

We left today for a shortened version of "The BIG trip". We are currently camped at Smonecten Park which is at the North end of Sidney. We chose this spot because our ferry to the mainland leaves at 6:00am from Swartz Bay! This means we can sleep until 4:30 instead of 3:00am!

This assumes that the tsunami warning currently discussed doesn't cause ferry cancellations in the morning.

Tomorrow, the plan is to reach Golden, BC and we will spend the night at a free campsite near a river. The following day, we will head to Swift Current (aka Speedy Creek) for a night at a municipal campsite, also near a river.

On Friday morning we will head to Moose Jaw (How far is Moose Jaw? I'm told it's about 4 feet from a mooses butt!). We will visit with Holly's sister-in-law Judy (a first meeting for me) and in the afternoon, we will head to a campsite in Weyburn, ready for my great-nephew Carter's wedding on Saturday.

Late Sunday, we will reverse the trip but with a stop in Cochrane to visit with Margi.

A busy trip and we will be home on Wednesday, a week from tomorrow after coaxing Vincent over a mountain range or two and nearly 4,000km!

Stay turned as we will try to update this blog daily as we head on our way.

About our Blog

Our blog is intended to keep our family and friends informed and entertained. We are constantly amazed with the beautiful places we visit with our favourite modes of travel and we want to share them with you.  Our travels are made in a 26' Tollycraft boat named Baywolf, a 1975 VW bus named Vincent, a Triumph Speedmaster named Speedy, our feet and our 16' Pelican canoe (it weighs 85lbs so it has different names depending on if we are paddling or portaging!).  We will document some of the ongoing upgrades and repairs and we will share some of our projects done through our little company, H&R Home and Yard.
