First Boat Trip 2026

Spring is finally here and even though we have enjoyed a wonderfully warm winter, it’s fantastic to be back on the water with Baywolf!

This overnight trip was predicated by our scheduled haul out for bottom paint and zincs on Monday.

A quick trip to Burgoyne Bay on Saltspring Island gave us a chance to assess the boat and plan this year’s projects. Baywolf is 50 this year. There are no shortages when it comes to maintenance and improvement projects.

After dropping anchor and having a snack for lunch, we rowed to shore and walked the 2km to a beautiful point overlooking Maple Bay.

Our Propex heater ran all night and kept us toasty warm. Temps ran down to zero that night! Dinner, crib and a glass of wine sent us off to sleep where we were serenaded by enthusiastic winds and the bouncy waves it created! There was bioluminescence in the water which surprised us for this time of year.

After coffee and home made breakfast burritos, we motored to Maple Bay marina for our 10:00am haul out. Docking the boat was harder than usual and the pictures below may explain part of the reason (operator error remains at the top of the possible reasons!).

The boat was pressure washed and put up on stands in the boat yard for more work. The bottom will be painted and the running gear will be cleaned and coated to slow the growth of hitch hikers in the future. Zincs (anodes) will be changed and the boat will be back in the water and ready for another 2 years of play.

The middle picture shows the rudder and propeller cleaned up and looking like it should!

We had a great time out on the water and are looking forward to a number of planned trips this year! We will definitely blog our adventures and show you where we are headed!

About our Blog

Our blog is intended to keep our family and friends informed and entertained. We are constantly amazed with the beautiful places we visit with our favourite modes of travel and we want to share them with you.  Our travels are made in a 26' Tollycraft boat named Baywolf, a 1975 VW bus named Vincent, a Triumph Speedmaster named Speedy, our feet and our 16' Pelican canoe (it weighs 85lbs so it has different names depending on if we are paddling or portaging!).  We will document some of the ongoing upgrades and repairs and we will share some of our projects done through our little company, H&R Home and Yard.
