On May 18, we woke to sunny skies and dry roads. We clad ourselves in our most dapper fineries and rode the Speedmaster into Victoria. It was sunny but very cold!
The ride began at Island Motorcycle. There were 137 bikes in total and it was a lot of fun to be part of such a large gathering of bikers.
The ride is international. It originated in Melbourne, Australia. More than 1,000 rides with 125,000 bikes happened on May 18 in many towns and cities around the world (108 countries participated). The funds collected are kept in the country where they were donated and here in Canada, all funds go to Movember. Since the start in 2012, this organization has raised nearly $75 million Cdn. This money helps support men's health; both emotional and physical. There were some talks by some good (and funny) speakers before we were "kickstands up" at 11:00. What a thundering roar as we all left the parking lot!
The ride followed secondary streets for about 50km and we ended up at The Waddling Dog on the Pat Bay highway. Food, speeches and awards were in abundance! Thanks to YOU... Holly and I acheived the 4th highest fund raising level and received a $50 gift card from the Waddling Dog.
With one small exception (not enough bathroom facilities at the start and along the route), this ride was extremely well organized and managed. We will do it again next year!
